Q.  What is HonorBound?

HonorBound is the name for men's ministry in the Assemblies of God.  It's a way of looking at oneself as a godly man.  HonorBound embodies the vision of where we are trying to go with all the men who are adherents to Assembly of God churches throughout the United States.

The philosophy of HonorBound is to challenge men to think about who they are in Christ when they think of the HonorBound: Men of Promise.

Q.  What is the basis for HonorBound?

HonorBound rests on four basic principles, all of which come from the Word of God.

  • We are to honor God with our lives.  In John 5:23 Jesus says that to honor him is to honor our Father who is in heaven
  • We are to honor our families.  In Matthew 15:4 Jesus laid down a foundation of life when he said we are to honor our father and our mother.
  • We are to honor those in need.  We are created to live in unity with one another.  In order to live out our lives fully; I need you and you need me.  That means we need to be aware of the needs of those around us and be ready to help in whatever way we can.  The apostle Paul affirms this in 1 Timothy 5:3 when he says we are to make provision for those who are in need.
  • We are to honor those in authority. Proper lines of authority bring structure and unity.  A healthy understanding of authority and working with it, empowers us to accomplish our life's purpose.  The apostle Paul af'firms this also when he states in 1 Peter 2:17 that we are to honor those in authority over us.

These four principles paint a picture of what it means to be a HonorBound man.  At the very core of being HonorBound is the idea of honor in every sense of the word.

Q.  Does HonorBound have a goal?

Absolutely!  The goal of Indiana HonorBound is to have an effective men's ministry in every church across Indiana.  To help churches ensure these ministries are directed toward and established for the unique needs of men.  To help the local church through training, resources and statewide events, develop men who are committed to the four principles of HonorBound.  To see men rise to their God directed purpose of godly husbands, fathers, sons and men.

Q.  Does HonorBound have a vision to fulfill this goal?

Our vision is that every man in the Indiana District will:

1.      have an identity; see his place in Christ

2.      be baptized in water and the Holy Spirit,

3.      be involved in a discipleship process,

4.      be actively supporting his pastor and church,

a.       with his time and talents

b.      with his finances

5.      be involved in a ministry

6.      be equipped to be an effective father, husband or son,

7.      be able to present the gospel

Q.  Is there really a need for HonorBound?

In 1992 a survey taken of men across America identified several key facts that solidly identified that there was a need for ministry that is directed to, supporting and discipling men.  The data of this survey showed that of the men survey:

  • 41% are sometimes attracted to pornography
  • 72% struggle with impure thoughts about women
  • 69% felt they were ineffective as a parent
  • 60% felt there was a need for emphasis on the role of the husband
  • 33% occasionally felt like a failure as a husband
  • 76% did not see themselves as the spiritual leaders in their homes

Q.  How is HonorBound unique in reaching men?

Indiana HonorBound believes that primarily ministry to men happens on the local church level.  Therefor we are working diligently to strengthen the local churches ability to identify the needs of men in the church and community.

HonorBound is unique in that our focus is to move men's ministry from an event driven ministry to a process driven ministry.  Leveraging the momentum of statewide events, we assist churches in developing meaningful life relationships in men which encourage major growth changes that effect families, churches and communities.
